Ministry Overview:

Athletes in Action (a division of Power To Change) is a ministry that seeks to collectively as well as individually, spread the gospel of Jesus Christ by building movements of evangelism and discipleship through spiritual multipliers in the athletic world. No matter what type of work those involved with AIA do, whether they are staff or volunteers, we understand that our work collectively is to further this overall mission. We envision the day when there is a multiplying disciple on every team and in every sporting community in Canada.

Position Overview:

Athletes in Action campus staff seek to catalyze spiritual growth, leadership skills and emotional well-being among all varsity athletes. Holistically, we desire to influence the development of the total athlete – mind, body, and spirit. This is primarily accomplished through sharing the Christian gospel message, small group bible studies, one on one personal ministry, and service projects/outreach with athletic teams on campus.

The intern would be exposed to, coached through, and challenged with all of the above facets of ministry. The purpose is to expand ministry experience and skill-sets, and aid in the determination of future involvement and career path.

Responsibilities:

  • Outreach to varsity teams through testimony sharing
  • Leading, facilitating, and teaching Bible studies
  • Mentoring/Discipleship:
    • Providing spiritual counsel
    • Loving, serving, encouraging, and caring for athletes
    • Identifying and developing future ministry leaders
  • Aiding in planning, executing and promoting student retreat (March), and National Training Camp (AIA’s annual Sport and Faith conference – May).
  • Compiling, composing and distributing ministry stories to supporters, alumni and social media.
  • Auditing current systems and processes for effectiveness.
  • Studying foundational Christian theology and pragmatic leadership skills

Education and Experience:

  • University Degree or equivalent

  • A genuine desire to see people’s lives changed
  • A desire to further personal growth and Biblical knowledge
  • Flexibility to serve in whatever way God calls you
  • A professional approach and demeanour

Ministry Partner Development is the process of building a partnership team which provides financial and prayer support for the ministry. The financial support will cover the costs of the candidate’s salary and ministry expenses. Power to Change believes that Ministry Partner Development is biblical and God will provide everything necessary to fulfil the calling into ministry: finances, emotional strength, and perseverance. Position Overview

AIA Campus Staff serve as full-time ministers and chaplains. They lead and actively foster spiritual growth among groups of amateur and varsity athletes through their devotion to God, leadership development, and the application of biblical principles.

Responsibilities

Campus (80%):

  • Provide spiritual counsel and advice to groups and individuals on spiritual, ethical, and life principles as well as ministers to their needs
  • Actively conduct outreach activities to amateur and varsity athletes and their families
  • Build relationships with coaches, athletes, and support staff at the university level
  • Lead Bible studies and engage in discipleship with athletes and coaches
  • Speak at pre-game chapels and team meetings
  • Train and equip student athletes for multiplying ministry
  • Work closely with churches and youth pastors in the community to ensure opportunity for Christian athletes to use their platform in the community
  • Challenge and recruit athletes to international tours, projects, national retreats, conferences, and camps
  • Work closely with other regional AIA campus staff and other campus ministries

Other (20%):

  • Attend and help lead at national and international AIA projects and events
  • Help lead, instruct, and counsel at AIA youth camps during the summer months

Requirements:

DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY DIVISION

Ministry Overview

No matter what type of work those involved with AIA do, whether they are staff or volunteers, we understand that our work collectively is to further this overall mission.

Position Overview

The Director of Community Division (DCD) is responsible for the fulfilment of the mission and vision of AIA for the Community Division. The DCD will provide leadership, direction, and team building for the AIA grassroots sports ministries in Canada. The DCD will oversee the following programs and related staff: Friday Night Basketball in BC, Multisport Camps in Manitoba, and AIA Church Partnership Sport Camps located in BC, AB, SK, ON, NS. The DCD will find strategic common ground for these sports groups to work together and impact communities through grassroots sport. This management role will include budget tracking, strategic planning and implementation, leadership coaching, and the measuring of program and staff performance. The DCD will coach and equip staff and volunteers to be more effective in ministry and to bring a fresh perspective to the way AIA is engaging communities across Canada. The DCD will work to maintain healthy relationships with existing community partners and will look to add new partnerships.

Primary Objectives

    1. Work with key AIA stakeholders to assess the current state of the Community Division
      • Develop relationships with key AIA stakeholders to work effectively together
      • Lead the Community Division through a strategic evaluation with clear action steps and plans of execution, ie. A Strategic Plan
    2.  Integrate and align the Community Division to more effectively fulfill AIA Mission
      • Consistently manage and track Community Division ministries (with other AIA Domain leaders) to ensure that these ministries are fulfilling the AIA mission and vision
      • Coach and equip Domain leaders to be more effective and fruitful in their roles
        Track and ensure fiscal responsibility for the Community Division
    3.  Expand the Community Division to grow across Canada
      • Expand the scope of participation from the current number of gyms in Chilliwack, Mission, Abbotsford, Langley, and Nanaimo for Friday Nite Basketball; approximately 40 camps in Manitoba, and 3500 kids attending 70 church partnership sports camps each summer in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and Nova Scotia.
      • The division is set up to equip and follow up with volunteers in communities across Canada to effectively engage their communities with the gospel through grassroots sport programs and initiatives. The DCD will work to expand this network.

Requirements:

  • Mature Christian leader who can work with older and experienced ministry leaders

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent
  • Experience working in church or parachurch ministry is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability in building a high functioning team
  • Experience in a management position
  • A balance of administrative competence as well as people leadership

  • Strong team leader who can integrate a working group into a high functioning team
